The phrase "goody two shoes" derives from the 15th Century. During those times, most people could only afford one shoe. The peasant children and women who's families could afford the second one were classed as being "good." Some people became jealous of them and starting name calling. "Goody two shoes" was considered the worst of them all.

Gray, i look at this picture, and I wonder are those both here feet, and if so how does she do that?
and while i'm on the randomness, do you ever wonder who thinks up the words for word verification

paul,
psst....those aren't actually words.
and no, no only one foot is mine. the other is my sister's.

shawn,
I've done some research and I really don't believe that people bothered to wear one shoe if that's all they could afford.

That is the plot of the story "goody two shoes" comes from though.

Goody is apparently short for Goodwife, which was the precurser to Mrs.

So the Goody in the story finally got another shoe after a life of poverty and then walked around going "two shoes, two shoes" and bragging.

No one likes a self righteous Goody.

I guess there is no Bady One Shoe, which kind of disappoints me.

chris,
say hello to the Goody for me!

okay here is scottish for her......or is a spelling glich....
glich...........
randomness.....well that's my word, who says you can't create new words, I mean really, who gets to be the person who creates words?
As for you and Shawn finding this stuff out, I thought you were busy, maybe you have to much time on your hands..........
and I just clicked in about the not being words as I was typing in the word verification. Gray I thought you were picking on my randomness but in fact its the yffcf's of the world.
